Minutes of Meeting held on Tuesday, 19th September, 2017.

Corpus Christi Procession was well attended.   This year it was a short walk to Tobar Naofa.

Pentecost:     The number of children attending the 12 o’clock Mass was very small.   Maybe this was due to the fact that it was a bank holiday weekend and that the children were off school.

Novena to The Sacred Heart:      The novena was very successful.   We didn’t have extra Eucharistic ministers organised this year – just the one minister on rota for the 6.10 Mass.    Next year have four Eucharistic Ministers, organised beforehand, for each evening of novena.

Permanent Diaconate:    Ordination of three permanent deacons for the diocese of Kerry (Denis Kelleher, Tralee.  Pat Coffey, Killorglin and Thady O’Connor, Kilcummin.) will take place on Saturday, 21st October in St. John’s Church.

Blessing of the new Reconciliation Window will take place at 7.30pm on Friday, 27th October.

World Meeting of Families will be held in Dublin from 22nd to 26th August, 2018.  In preparation for this St. John’s will host a large icon of the Holy Family for three or four days between 9th and 20th April, 2018.  Also the altar at the back left of church will be turned into sacred space around the world meeting of families.    Some members of the liturgy group will meet in the church on Monday 25th September to organise this.

Diocesan Assembly in preparation for the World Meeting of Families (How can parish support family life?) will take place on Sunday 15th October in the Brandon Hotel, Tralee.

Harvest Mass will be celebrated at the Vigil Mass on Saturday, October 14th in St. John’s Church.  Parishioners will be invited to bring non-perishable items of food and place them in baskets in front of the altar at all Masses this weekend 14th/15th October.    The food will be collected by the Vincent de Paul Society.

Mass for parishioners who died during the year will be celebrated on Friday, 3rd November, at 7.30pm.

  • Invite families of people who died between 1st November 2016 and 3rd November, 2017.

  • Procession will take place before Mass.   The order will be:  Person carrying Paschal Candle, Person carrying Book of Remembrance, Altar Servers and Priests.   People carrying the book and candle must attend for rehearsal at 6.45pm.

  • Two Ministers of the Word available to do 1st and 2nd Readings.   The Reader on rota for 6.10pm Mass must be contacted and made aware that there is no 6.10 Mass this evening and be asked to transfer to this Mass.

  • Ask Eucharistic Minister on rota for 6.10 Mass to transfer to this Mass.   Get six extra ministers.

  • Music

  • Red Remembrance candles to be lit around sanctuary and in cross-shaped container on steps of altar before Mass and quenched during Holy Communion.   Celebrant will invite people to take candle home with them after Mass in memory of their deceased family member.

  • Refreshments in parish centre after Mass.   Book hall, kitchen and blue room.

Meeting concluded with prayer in memory of Mary O’Carroll who died recently and was a long serving member of the liturgy group.

Next meeting will be held on Tuesday, 7TH November @ 7.30pm.
